Shipyard Operations Simulation
Students are employed in different departments while building a ship. They
calculate the weight, draft, and kinetic energy of a ship. Developed by Old
Dominion University (ODU) and funded by the National Shipbuilding Research
Program (NSRP). Grades 6-8
Students construct a submarine in this simulation. Playing the role of employees of
ABC yard, they must first estimate the cost of the vessel and then build it.
Developed by ODU and funded by NSRP (NSRP). Grades 6-8
Students find the center of buoyancy, calculate weight and volume of displaced
water, and study the effect of salinity in this simulation developed by ODU
and funded by NSRP. Grades 6-8
Students assume role of Ship Disaster Investigation Agency (SDIA) agents
analyzing ship disaster case studies. Developed by ODU and funded by NSRP.
